A Message from Rev. Dr. Jack Harnish

Pastor Emeritus & Interim Associate Pastor of Berkley First

Meet Dr. Harnish on Sunday, February 15 at 10:00 a.m.

Dear Friends at Berkley First,
When I was asked to step in as your interim pastor, Judy's first response was, “Well, why wouldn’t you?” The dream of multiple-site ministry began during my time there, so seeing what you have built is gratifying.  You are a welcoming, warm community that cares deeply for one another, serves your neighbors, and isn't afraid to do church a little differently.  It’s been a joy to watch from a distance.

I want you to know that I'm not here as a mere placeholder, or to “replace” Zack.  He will always hold a very special place in the life of this congregation. I'm here as your pastor — to preach, to pray, to offer pastoral care, and to walk alongside you through this transition. I look forward to learning your names, your stories, and what makes this community the special place it is.

Transitions are never easy. I know. I’ve been through seven of them in the past. There may be questions I can't answer and feelings that take time to process. That's okay. What I can promise you is this: you are not alone. You are deeply loved by God and by the people of the Birmingham/Berkley community, and I am delighted to serve as your pastor during these months.

I can't wait to get to know you. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you need anything: jharnish@berkleyfirst.org.

Grace and peace,
Rev. Dr. Jack Harnish
