Steeple Notes Weekly Newsletter

February 1 is Scout Sunday. Scouts from our Birmingham First units will participate in both worship services, celebrating the values of faith, service, and leadership. Be sure to stop by Thomas Parlor for a Scouting display, where you can meet our Scouts and Scout leaders and learn more about their experiences. Both Cub Scouting (kindergarten–fifth grade) and Scouts BSA (ages 11–17) meet on Wednesdays at and welcome new members. Learn more about our Scouting ministries at www.gatheredhereforgood.org/1032scouts.

On the bulletin cover this week you'll see the stained-glass window in the East (Children’s) Entrance stairwell will be featured, depicting a minister and a Scout framed by the 1897 Christian Flag and the American flag—symbols that point to faith, service, and character formation through Scouting.

Torrey Family | After the Fire
On January 27, the Torrey family experienced a devastating house fire. We are grateful to share that everyone is safe, with only minor injuries, though the loss has understandably turned their lives upside down. Beth Torrey serves as our Children & Family Ministry Coordinator and UNITE 3-on-3 Basketball Coordinator, and her family is deeply woven into the life of our church. Their children are active in many areas, including volunteering, youth group, and Sunday School. Pastors have been present for immediate needs, and family members are providing temporary shelter as longer-term housing options are explored. If you feel called to help, click here.

On Wednesday, February 18, from 5:00–7:00 p.m., you’re invited to take part in this meaningful tradition at Birmingham First with a community meal benefiting local food pantries and soup kitchens. Guests can enjoy a soup and cereal supper featuring soups generously donated by local restaurants, with options to dine in or pick up a meal to go. Each bowl served continues a legacy of compassion, generosity, and faithful service that has shaped Empty Bowls for a quarter century.

Blood Drive on Monday, February 23
Right now, communities across the country are facing a critical blood shortage, and one simple act can make a life-saving difference. By donating blood through Versiti, one of the nation’s largest and most trusted blood providers, you can help ensure hospitals have the supply they need for surgeries, medical treatments, and emergencies. A single donation can save up to three lives, and the process typically takes about an hour, with most donors experiencing little to no side effects. Adults ages 17 to 79 are eligible to donate, and all blood types are needed, especially O-negative, the universal donor. Giving blood is a tangible way to love your neighbor, support our wider community, and offer hope when it is needed most.

First Steps: Exploring the Bible

Thursdays, February 5, 12, 19 & 26; March 5 & 12 from 7:00-8:30 p.m.
#240 Arbon Dennis Chapel, or via Zoom, led by Roz Townes

First Steps: Exploring the Bible is an invitational class designed to help you feel more comfortable and confident as you approach the reading and study of God’s Word. Rather than answering every question, this class focuses on what to notice, helping you discover the Bible’s main story and the threads of truth woven throughout Scripture. Together, we will explore the big picture of God’s unfolding Kingdom, the depth of God’s love and pursuit of people, and the light of Christ at the heart of it all. Whether you are new to the Bible or returning with fresh curiosity, First Steps offers a welcoming place to begin—and to enjoy the journey.

For questions or a zoom link, email roztownes@icloud.com.

Books are available at no cost in the church office.
