Steeple Notes Weekly Newsletter

This week’s bulletin cover features the Hand of God, a symbol of divine presence, guidance, and power (located in the upper panel of the left lancet of the altar window). It reminds us that God is actively at work in the world—offering direction, protection, and care—and invites us to trust in His sovereignty and leading.

This image connects beautifully with this Sunday’s sermon, “Knowing the Way” (John 14:1–14), where Rev. Dr. Charles Boayue, Jr. will reflect on Jesus’ words to his troubled disciples. As they face uncertainty, Jesus will offer reassurance, calling them to trust in him as the way, the truth, and the life. Just as the Hand of God symbolizes divine guidance, we will be reminded that even when the path ahead is unclear, God is present, leading us forward. As we gather in worship, we will be invited to bring our burdens in prayer and find encouragement in the promise that God is with us, guiding our journey.

Miracle Sunday is May 17

On Sunday, May 17, our congregation will join more than 30,000 United Methodist churches around the world in observing Miracle Sunday, a special offering for the Endowment for Theological Education in Africa, Europe, and the Philippines.

Bishop David Alan Bard has asked Pastor Charles to serve the Michigan Conference as Coordinator of this initiative, and it carries particular weight for him: his own theological education in the 1980s was made possible through the generosity of United Methodist congregations in Florida and North Carolina.

The need is real. Today, 71% of U.S. United Methodist clergy hold a master's degree — compared to only 5% of clergy outside the U.S. The Endowment will support the education of 500 new clergy leaders in regions where the church is growing fastest.
